Derek Spencer Oh that movie is going to be balls to the wall action, and I'm excited. But it comes out the same weekend as Scott Pilgrim, so the choice is obvious, and so The Expendables is just going to be crushed in the box office.

Actually, Derek, I think the majority of the general public would go see The Expendables over Scott Pilgrim. The world's best action heroes versus a comic book that only a select demographic knows about? Yeeeeah.

I would say both have their own separate target audience, and doubt that they would be competition for each other. Read an article in metro today. They were actually comparing inception with Scott Pilgrim. Saying SP would do better than Inc...eption. Am doubtful on that.

Am sure both to be in an average profit range, unlike Inception.See More

Well, as much as the general public are idiots, I think you actually underestimate them. Mindless action flicks are great and all, but the public still knows a bad one when they see it. Look at the A-Team even.
Also, Scott Pilgrim has been g...etting press like HELL. Edgar Wright's last two films may have been something of cult successes, but they were also critically acclaimed so the studio is pumping money into PR for this. They showed scenes at the MTV movie awards as well and are releasing a downloadable game on XBox Live to coincide with it, and early screenings have already garnered it an 88% at Rotten Tomatoes compared with Expendables' 30%.

I really think Scott Pilgrim is going to blow the Expendables out of the water. Though Ayan's right, they don't really have the same target audience anyway. The audience overlaps with people our age, but even among people our age, Scott Pilgrim is clearly more geared for us.See More

well its all a matter of time. PR would be a better success than Expendables. Just for me as to learn cinematography I would be prefer expendables more than PR and also as a fan of classic action takes as well.
I would watch PR just for Mich...ael Cera, as I find him quite entertaining. Anyways, good luck to both.

Ayan Sengupta Well...am talking about classic cinematography (pure camera work)....without post production effects, which is more common in films in today's genre.

Derek Spencer Yes, but Edgar Wright is a student of those classic camera tricks. Hell, he put crash zooms to work in Spaced; a low budget television sitcom! The man is fantastic.

Scott Pilgrim I'm seeing as soon as I can, Expendables I'll probably see as well, but on matinee night.

_Inception_

That age of films, that came out had all that you see in Inception. Though mite not appeal to the generation today, since they are trend setting films and have been made into a modern version, that would be inception.

I am still a fan of those, sorta inception failed to impress me that much. Although, cinematography was insane, truly a fan.:)"

_2010 space odyssey, predicts Inception with its name, stating 2010 to be the year. Call a coincidence or not. Though Nolan does state it to be a Odyssey inspired.

Di Caprio of course fabulous was quite the same as Shutter Island by Martin Scorsese. Which I preferred over Inception because of the near perfect sense of timing. And art direction. A sense of surrealism and flow, though predictable, had an Inuit sense of message in its ending. Which I think Inception lacked. There are ways to cheat out of good story structure and one of them is have enough clutter in steps that lead to climax that it becomes hard for the audience to follow out of it. Same way fast cutting strong imagery are some of them. Don't want to force an opinion though Inception almost felt like a cheat to a perfect plot.

The ending strongly reminds me of the ending from "What dreams may come(1998)" directed by Vincent Ward, starring Robin Williams.The whole scene with the little house in the lonely city.

I would say a perfect film for the time it has come out. It did justice to the audience, unaware of the intricacy films such as mentioned above provide.

well...whats ur rashe ...I know did suck....I didn't say was a good film at all. I said when I watch the film from my perspective I say it did suck, even My name is khan didn't do well in my list of good films.
To talk of the common people, it is the society I grew up in "lower middle" and poor class. Ignorant as they are towards religions and issues to do with women, that when Sharukh Khan says,"mazhab, niyat hai niyam nahin", people would believe it. and the same applies to a lot of incidents shown in Whats ur rashee.

Don't always watch a film as a critic, judge it as what is to learn and what is necessary to be conveyed in a society of today.

_Blindness 2008_

On Film:
Directed by Fernando Meirelles
Great acting by Gael Garcia Bernal (Y tu mama tambien, Motorcycle Diaries) and Julian Moore (Hannibal Lector). Amazing cinematography and direction. Strong compositions in boarding and focus on relations between various shots. Really like the way all the effects and camera tricks were selectively chosen according to the requirement of the premise. The shot of the car taking the japanese to his home at start of the movie clearly states it. The continous change in reflection over the car window clearly created the mood of the disease.
The shot with the 2 oranges on the plate made me quite curious of what might be the importance of the shot. But later the revelation of the time elapsed within the orange being fresh and being rotten was a great thought put up for teh mmotivation of the story.
The shot with the engagement ring on Mark Ruffalo's finger portrays a well thought out charector creation. The relationships they are involved in and how important they are.
Also the dogs feeding on the human and teh other pet dog stil trying to find a loyal food was well important.

On Life:
This does take me back to the conversation I had the other night wih my friend about the way things work and how my mind aproaches regular thoughts of people. The fact that people are so patriotic about their natin and they are ready to go to war anytime when need be to stop a political power or defend their own so called people is quite rrelevantly miniscule when the world is on a crisis of its own. A crisis that is created by nature itself.
A blind wouldnt care if the only one who can see is of an enemy race.
