  • So much for the man who was against equality of humankind, for a man who did more damage to Bombay than contribute to its development, who took the credit for other's hard work, who bred hate and promoted violence against peace and love, who manipulated and misled people. R.I.P Bal Thackeray for all the peace that you stole away from the people. India would be thankful for this day. Elsewhere he would have been called a 'Racist'.

    • Vinnit George Wiki may be bullshit! Ask the south Indians, Ask the North Indians. You will get your answer. How would it be if Maharashtrians were called Rajasthanis or Punjabis? Malayalis were never given their own identities, and were belittled as 'Madrasis'. So are lot of other state people. Please don't be under the impression that only Maharashtrians built 'Bombay'. It was built by the Britishers infrastructure wise, and then by the sweat of all Indians. So I would advice you to go do your research and then comment.
    • Vinnit George Just because Bombay happens to be in Maharashtra doesn't mean that Maharashtrians are the only one who can live there and work there. A lot of distinction was created by the so called 'Lion', if he could he would drive away all the people of other states from Bombay. And please don't be under the impression that Bombay would economically survive if he did that. If it were me, I would whisk away Bombay to a different location from Maharashtra and then ask your Bal Thackeray to build another city like that. And then I would respect him.

    • Ayan Sengupta yep. Well time will take its toll and so will awareness.....Education without an open mind and experience is pure bookish and not open to idea. India is know for high school and secondary education. Its just mere knowledge without practical application/ experience. Which is more of an integral part to creativity/ideas/broad mindedness. Padho and pass ho logic. Questioning and experimenting se zyada pass hona important hai. Mentality is never going to change until ground root education is.

The entire education system needs to be revamped. The whole examination system should be changed, thinking and innovating need to replace passing and scoring. Well said bro.

    • Manthan Bhatia Vinnit, not that I'm a huge fan of his..but here are some facts..1950 - Balasaheb Thackeray's father, Keshav Thackeray (aka Prabodhankar Thackeray) formed the Samyukta Maharashtra Samiti to form a separate linguistic state for Marathas..once the state was formed and in the early 1950's, Muumbai was added as a part of Maharashtra..fast forward to the 1960's when most of the labor unions were controlled by South Indians..in fact even the underworld consisted of dons from the South..the Shetty's and the Bala's..you probably wouldn't have heard these names, but if you'll dig for info, you'll find it..so while Maharashtra was a separate, linguistic state, it was being run by South Indians..and the Marathi people were doing what they anyways did..fishing and slavery..Balasaheb, who was then a cartoonist, tried creating awareness the peaceful, Gandhigiri way..through satirical cartoons..I'm afraid sarcasm was pretty rare then..so then he coined the "Lungi Hatao, Pungi Bajao" motto..the rest was history..South Indians were beaten and chased away..but if you realise he's let other people work here in Maharashtra..we have Gujjus running the share market, Marwaris running the diamond market, South Indians running quite a few restaurants..basically, his methods maybe wrong but his intentions were right..(This is my opinion)..then his followers grew..and grew..and eventually at a point of time they became too many to control..Balasaheb once said to his party workers, never trouble an innocent person..and never harm a woman..you may say he was a racist..but there are many who believe that if he wasn't around, we would have been troubled at the hands of Muslims..(Please not that the last line is not my opinion, merely stating somebody else's view)..
    • Nish Gaur infact i have also heard the last line frm many ppl- politicians, authors, mum, dad, neighbourers,etc. Bt i disagree. This theory would lead to more destruction rather than any improvement. By thnkng ths we would ruin peace (which is already vulnerable in india).
    • Vinnit George Manthan Bhatia: Good point. Taken. But as you noted. His intentions 'WERE' right. That was past. 1950s and 60s passed by. Situations changed, equations changed. The Shetty's and the Bala's were driven off. Now the mafia was Marathis themselves. What did they do? They just grew into a bunch of hooligans and goons. The same what the Shetty's and Bala's did. But in a new color of saffron. This time troubling the innocent people from other states coming to the financial capital to earn their bread. Tell me, post 70s or 80s was the Shiv Sena the good samaritan that u say as was their beginnings? The Sainiks today behave as they are the bloody landlords of Bombay.
      Go to any private company established in Bombay and check the background of the employees. And you will find a handful of Sainiks in the unions who shirk work and walk into the offices as if the company was owned by their freakin fathers - in - law. Answer if this behavior is justified? If you were owning a company now, I bet all you would be thinking now would be ways to appease these bastards or throw them out.
      The persuasive methods of sainiks is destruction, vandalizing. This is what you call 'not troubling an innocent'? Who gave them the authority to meddle with and violate the constitutional provisions??
    • Vinnit George Maharashtrians are not subject to intolerance in any other state, then why this ire against those who stay in Bombay?

      ISNT ALL THIS JUST BCOZ BOMBAY WAS ACCEDED INTO MAHARASHTRA? If that was not the case, not one of these Thackerays would have taken the pains to make one of the cities of Maharashtra equivalent to Bombay!

      And just a reminder, Marathas were never into slavery. Fishing was the livelihood of only a handful, the community who stayed close to the coast. Marathas have been empowered right from the time of Chatrapati Shivaji. So I firmly believe that Thackeray and the so called 'sainiks' are supposed to be held responsible for the damage.

      If as you say the followers grew and grew till he couldn't stop them from hurting an innocent person, then his leadership is supposed to be questioned. And if his leadership is under question, then what is all this hype for. Like I said, India would just be thankful for this day!!

    • Nish Gaur might be very normal thing to say but 'what is gone is gone'. All we can promise is a brighter future and present. Educating the society (frnz, relatives, parents, etc) is the need of hour. Opening their eyes and saving them frm the 'racism' disease is in our hands. :)
    • Ayan Sengupta Even hitler had pros to him. To say when coming to power people show quite the respect to positivity and is appreciated. Whence in power they do abuse it. Whats done is done. Many will follow after. Each individual should see this openly, thats all there is.
